I think that in page 478 (“Cyclic Redundancy Check”, PDF version) there’s an error.

As said before, in GF(2n) addition and subtraction correspond to XOR logical operation. This means that the sum of the polynomials x^4+x^3+1 and x^3+x+1 is equal to x^4+x^3
”

Looking at the XOR operation and the coefficients of the polynomials the expected result of the sum operation is:
x^4+x

Am I missing something?

Yes. I’m already aware of that mistake. It will be fixed in the next release of the book.
